About hōmu

hōmu (Japanese pronunciation of the English word “home”) is a store for Japanese living in the heart of Basel. Across four floors (1F to 4F), selected Japanese products are offered: everyday companions, stationery and household items, kimono, books, lights, furniture, antiques and art. Around 90 percent of the products come from Japan, complemented by works from local creatives. A focus is custom-made futons and natural mattresses in various sizes, also in organic qualities, consisting exclusively of natural materials and sewn individually by hand in a Swiss workshop. The futons can be experienced in a showroom on the 2nd floor, and hōmu also offers personal consultation with a trial night. Occasional exhibitions, workshops and cultural events take place on the 4th floor.
