The Company
H2Plas GmbH was founded in June 2021 as a 100% subsidiary of Dr. Ryll Lab GmbH in the Adlershof Technology Park in Berlin. The company develops plants for the production of hydrogen, carbon black, syngas (e-fuel) and acetylene based on carbonaceous raw materials such as natural gas or biomethane using microwave plasma technologies. Following the construction of a pilot plant with a production capacity of 1 kg H2 per hour as part of a proof-of-concept study (2020), the automation technology was optimized for 24/7 operation, and in 2022 a demonstration plant for 10-12 kg H2 per hour was built and syngas production based on the plasma technology was demonstrated. Microwave plasmalysis enables a contact-free, non-thermal low-temperature plasma in which the energy is guided through waveguides into the plasma source and focused there. H2Plas GmbH offers plant development as well as pilot and demonstration plants for customers from hydrogen production, chemicals, e-fuels, aviation, shipping and heavy-duty transport.

Raw Materials and Processes
Natural methane
Carbonaceous raw material for the production of hydrogen, carbon black, syngas and acetylene by microwave plasmalysis.
Biomethane
Renewable feedstock for plasmalysis enabling more climate-friendly production.
Hydrogen
Main product of microwave plasmalysis; according to the company, producible with around 8 times greater energy efficiency than via electrolysis.
Carbon Black
Solid product of plasmalysis; yield and product qualities were optimized in 2021.
Syngas (E-Fuel)
Product produced since 2022 based on plasma technology for aviation, shipping and heavy-duty transport.
Acetylene
Further product of microwave plasmalysis based on carbonaceous raw materials.
