About Häfner & Krullmann
Häfner & Krullmann GmbH is a family-owned plastics processing plant based in Leopoldshöhe (North Rhine-Westphalia) and has been one of the leading manufacturers of spools made from thermoplastics for over 90 years. The company develops, designs and produces around 1,400 spool variants with diameters from 40 to 1,190 mm – including band spools, welding wire spools, ultra-fine wire spools, machine spools, winding cores, reel rings and spool containers for wires, cables, optical fibres, medical technology, photovoltaics and 3D printing. Production is carried out by injection moulding on 46 machines in three-shift operation with clamping forces up to 16,000 kN and shot weights up to 12,000 g; more than 6,000 tonnes of plastic are processed annually. Materials include PS, ABS, PE, PP, PA6, POM, PC, SAN and glass-fibre-reinforced PA. Injection moulding tools are manufactured in the in-house toolmaking department, CAD/CAM-networked with Moldflow simulation and high-speed milling. For medical technology, a cleanroom of Class 8 (ISO 14644-1) / cGMP Class D with a Rooming-In process is available. A logistics centre with over 5,000 m² of warehouse space and 10,000 pallet positions enables daily deliveries worldwide to 44 countries.

Materials & Processes
Polystyrene (high-impact)
Standard material for LM spools, welding wire and band spools; impact-resistant and cost-effective.
Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene
For reinforced spools (EM, VMV, GM) and applications with chemical exposure or low temperatures.
Polyethylene
Used for spool bodies, including PE foam cladding on optical fibre spools.
Polypropylene
For spools with increased chemical exposure, also as foam structure (PP TSG).
Polyamide 6
For mechanically highly stressed spools, e.g. the VM series.
Glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide
Bushings with high abrasion resistance and emergency running properties.
Polyoxymethylene
For precise machine elements with high dimensional stability.
Polycarbonate
For applications with increased requirements for strength and transparency.
Styrene-Acrylonitrile
Alternative for welding wire spools for special applications.
Foam-structure polystyrene
Lightweight material for VM spools with reduced weight.
