About Hahnemühle
Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH was founded in 1584 as a paper mill in the Solling hills of southern Lower Saxony and produces at its Dassel site traditional artist papers, digitally printable FineArt inkjet papers, and specialty papers for filtration, medicine, industry and research. Production takes place on a cylinder mould paper machine for genuine mould-made papers with grammages of 80 to 640 g/m² (speed 4–15 m/min) as well as on a fourdrinier paper machine (up to 105 m/min), which produces not only artist papers but also filter papers and high-purity base papers. The raw materials used are rag fibres (cotton fibres), pulps, linen fibre, linters and alpha-cellulose, processed with pure spring water according to recipes that are in part centuries old. Genuine mould-made paper from the roll is cut and processed into sketch and painting blocks in various artist formats. The papers are felt-marked during the production process, continuously inspected, and in some cases acid-free and lignin-free for archival applications. An international distribution network supplies customers worldwide; the Hahnemühle Certified Studios certification programme is aimed at FineArt print studios.

Quality
The papers are continuously checked during production and tested against application-specific quality criteria such as grammage, strength, surface, density and colour space. Digital FineArt papers are among other things tested for ageing resistance by independent research institutes; the Hahnemühle Certified Studios certification programme ensures print quality at studios.
