About Hamburg Aviation

Hamburg Aviation is a cluster agency for the aviation ecosystem of the Hamburg metropolitan region, founded in 2001 and organized as a registered association. As part of the strategic economic development of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the registered association brings together companies, research, academia and politics. Its teams work with members on focus areas such as sustainable aviation, Urban Air Mobility, aircraft cabin, skilled workforce qualification and international relations. The offering includes advocacy at regional, national and EU level, events and networking, support with international delegations and trade fairs, communication and marketing of the location, as well as a job board for the Hamburg aviation industry. Hamburg Aviation, among other things, organizes the project management for the Crystal Cabin Award and presents its own young talent award. The head office is located at Wexstraße 7 in Hamburg. Members and partners include Airbus, Lufthansa Technik, Hamburg Airport, DLR, ZAL, HAW Hamburg and TUHH as well as the associations HECAS and Hanse-Aerospace.

In 2014, Hamburg Aviation was awarded the GOLD Label (European Cluster Excellence) by the European Commission as one of the 40 best-managed clusters in Europe and was recertified in 2023.

History

1. 2001

   Founding of the network as Initiative Luftfahrtstandort Hamburg (Aviation Location Hamburg Initiative)

2. 2002

   Hamburg hosts the Aircraft Interiors Expo for the first time

3. 2007

   Premiere of the Crystal Cabin Award as part of the Aircraft Interiors Expo

4. 2008

   Winner of the leading-edge cluster competition of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research

5. 2009

   Founding of the ZAL and the HCAT; co-initiation of the European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP)

6. 2012

   Launch of the location's umbrella brand Hamburg Aviation, presented for the first time at the ILA Berlin

7. 2014

   Awarded the GOLD Label of the European Commission as one of the 40 best-managed clusters in Europe

8. 2016

   Winner of the 'Award-winning Places in the Land of Ideas' competition for successful network work

9. 2020

   Co-design of the largest funding program in the history of the aviation location during the Covid-19 pandemic; this led, among other things, to the Hydrogen Aviation Lab and the GATE Green Aviation Technologies funding program
