About Hamburg Vacuum
Hamburg Vacuum is developing the iCooler, a novel compressor for the natural refrigerant R718 (water) for the HVACR sector, for mobile and stationary applications as well as for heat pumps. The technical basis is 25 years of dry vacuum pump technology: The iCooler is based on a dry-running screw vacuum pump with water-lubricated bearings, so no oil or grease is required in the system. The electronically synchronized rotors run oil-free and enable compression in the wet steam region with injection for higher efficiency. The iCooler covers evaporation temperatures just above 0 °C and condensation temperatures above 90 °C; down to -25 °C is possible with water plus ethanol, or in cascade with CO2 (down to -50 °C). With R718, an energy efficiency gain of more than 10% is achieved, with a GWP of zero and without expenses for leak testing under F-Gas regulations. Fields of application are IT cooling, industrial process cooling, and heat pumps for hot water above 60 °C without legionella risk.
