About the Helmut Schmidt University

The Helmut-Schmidt-Universität/Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg (HSU/UniBw H) is one of the two universities of the German Federal Armed Forces and is organised as a public-law corporation under Hamburg higher education law. It trains officer candidates and officers in accredited academic degree programmes leading to recognised degrees (Bachelor, Master). The university comprises the faculties of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics and Social Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences, and holds the right to award doctorates and habilitations. A significant share of research projects is funded by third-party funds from the DFG, AiF, federal ministries and other sponsors. For companies, HSU offers continuing education through a Centre for Academic Continuing Education, research collaborations through the Research Office, prototype development in the OpenLab Hamburg, and placement of student assistance. With around 2,500 students and more than 900 employees, the university is the largest Federal Armed Forces facility in Hamburg.
