About Herforder Brauerei
Herforder Brauerei GmbH is a brewery based in the East Westphalian municipality of Hiddenhausen. It emerged from the brewery Felsenkeller, founded in 1878 by the brothers Gustav and Georg Uekermann in Schweicheln near Herford. Its range includes, among others, Herforder Pils, Herforder Export, Herforder Landbier, Helles Dittken and Herforder Alster naturally cloudy, as well as seasonal Maibock and Christmas beer. Herforder Pils accounts for around 90% of total brewing volume; one third of production is distributed in kegs. Measured by beer output, the company belonged to the large German private breweries in the 1980s with an annual output of up to 1.1 million hectoliters; in 2006 total output was 515,000 hectoliters. Since its integration on 1 July 2007, the brewery has belonged to the Warsteiner Group (Haus Cramer Group), which invested around 20 million euros in the Hiddenhausen site from 2023, among other things in a new bottle filling line that went into operation in summer 2024. In May 2026, the closure of the site at the end of August 2026 was announced.
