About the Dairy
Heumilch-Sennerei Rutzhofen eG is a cooperatively organized cheese dairy founded in 1908 in Stiefenhofen-Rutzhofen in the western Allgäu. Nine milk suppliers deliver 1.4 million kilograms of silage-free and GMO-free hay milk to the dairy each year. From this milk, Allgäu mountain cheese, Emmental, Sennrahm cheese, Alprahm cheese, butter, quark and other specialties are traditionally produced in copper kettles, partly with ingredients such as wild garlic, caraway, fenugreek, chili or pepper. In addition to production at its headquarters, the cooperative operates sales outlets in Oberstaufen and Maierhöfen as well as an online shop with shipping. The products are marketed, among other channels, via the Westallgäu Cheese Trail. Guided tours of the dairy are offered at times, but were most recently not possible.
