Second-generation family business
HIRAM GmbH (brand: HIRAM Habitat) manufactures custom-made plank flooring and wall and ceiling panels from solid wood or three-layer construction in Oberkirch at the foot of the Black Forest. The materials processed are Douglas fir, French oak, ash, European larch and Black Forest silver fir from PEFC- and FSC-certified forestry. Value creation begins with the company's own roundwood trade: its own forestry experts select and mark every log in the forest, sawn timber is produced in partner sawmills, followed by air pre-drying (for oak up to one year) and technical drying in kilns. In the company's own wood manufactory, the boards are planed and edged, glued, profiled with tongue and groove and cut to final dimensions. The surfaces are sanded, brushed, saw-rough worked and finished with lye, oils and hard wax oils; plank lengths up to 15 m and widths up to 400 mm are possible. Customers include private clients, architecture and design projects, retail (including SMCP flagship stores), hotels, commerce and public buildings such as the Children's Hospital Zurich (300 m³ of Douglas fir facade elements).
