About the Hirschbach Sawmill
Hirschbach GmbH operates a sawmill in Sulzbach-Laufen that has existed since 1908 and is today run by the fourth generation. The company cuts softwood timber, in particular spruce and Douglas fir, according to customer-specific cutting pattern planning. The product portfolio includes boards, laths and cross frames, glulam laminations, raw stock for KVH (solid structural timber), storage-grade square timber as well as planks and boards, including special dimensions. An in-house timber drying facility is heated by a biomass power plant in which bark and sawmill by-products are used to generate electricity and heat; in addition, PV systems and a hydroelectric plant generate electricity. Via its own pelletizing plant, wood pellets are offered by the sack, by the pallet or by the truckload. Customers include, among others, the KVH, glulam and prefabricated house industries, the timber wholesale trade, the packaging, pulp, wood-based materials and pellet industries as well as biomass combined heat and power plants. The roundwood predominantly comes from PEFC-certified forests in the region.
