About Hiss Reet
Hiss Reet GmbH is a family business founded in 1833, headquartered in Bad Oldesloe (Schleswig-Holstein), and has been trading in reed (thatching reed) since the 1920s. Today the company is Germany's largest reed dealer, supplying roofers, carpentry firms and building owners with roof reed in qualities and stem lengths of approx. 140–170 cm – from a single bundle to full truckloads. Subsidiaries in Turkey, Romania and Hungary handle the harvesting and processing of the reed; a joint venture operates in South Africa. In addition to roof reed, Hiss Reet manufactures and sells natural building materials: reed boards as insulation and render carrier boards (2–6 cm, bound with galvanized wire and stainless steel staples), reed fabric as a render carrier, patented reed shingles, acoustic elements, lightweight clay wood chips as well as products for nature and garden, such as privacy screens, straw umbrellas, insect hotels and birdhouses. Distribution is by ship and truck to Germany, Holland, England, Ireland and Denmark, as well as through the company's own shop. Owner Tom Hiss runs the trading house in the sixth generation.
