The company was founded in 1989 as a pioneer in vehicle detection using induction loops and expanded its product range in the early 1990s to include parking garage technology and barrier systems. Since 1999, the parking space management system PARK-plus has been in use worldwide, followed by the modular system PARKliva. Products manufactured include barriers and barrier systems, bollards, mobile vehicle barriers, certified high-security barriers (crash-tested), yard sliding gates, supply stations for electricity, water and data, as well as parking garage and parking lot systems. Identification media include barcode and concertina tickets, chip coins, transponders (RFID), magnetic keys or rigid plastic cards; laser scanners, UHF long-range readers and ANPR license plate recognition extend the systems. In 2018, the Hörmann Group acquired Hermann Automation KG; on January 1, 2023, the company was renamed Hörmann KG Mengerskirchen with the construction of a new building and capacity expansion at the Mengerskirchen site. Customers come from the parking sector, industry, commerce and the public sector.
