Teamwork – Pottery in the Hörmannhaus
Hörmannhaus Töpferei is a craft business in Immenstadt im Allgäu founded in 1993 by master potter Christine Velte. The company produces hand-thrown tableware that is dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe, as well as one-off pieces, objects and sculptures. The materials are clay and loam; the glazes, made from ground rocks with colouring oxides — including traditional iron and Shino glazes — are developed in-house. Production takes place on the potter's wheel through centring, pulling up and shaping, followed by glazing and painting work and a two-day smooth firing in the gas kiln at 1260 degrees in an open flame. The tableware is used among other things in gastronomy, for example at the Restaurant freistil and on the Alpe Gschwenderberg. The workshop, shop and the Obadoba gallery are located in the Hörmannhaus, built in 1757, on the Klosterplatz.
