About HKM

Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH (HKM) operates an integrated steelworks in southern Duisburg and is 100 percent owned by the Salzgitter Group. The company produces pig iron in two blast furnaces and steel in the LD converter process, casting it into slabs and round continuous-cast products in up to 2,000 steel grades. The value chain includes its own sinter plants and a coking plant with two batteries (2.3 million t of coke/year); coke oven gas and blast furnace gas supply the Duisburg-Huckingen power plant. Customers are the shareholders, who further process the semi-finished products into seamless tubes, large-diameter pipes, body components and forged parts; customer industries are the automotive, tube and steel processing industries as well as mechanical engineering. HKM accounts for around 12 % of German crude steel production and employed 3,093 people (2021) with revenue of €3,136.0 million. Plans call for the shutdown of the blast furnaces and the construction of an electric arc furnace with an annual capacity of 2–2.5 million t for CO₂-reduced steel production by 2029.
