About Hunger DFE
Hunger DFE GmbH, Dichtungs- und Führungselemente (Seals and Guide Elements), was founded in 1977 in Lohr am Main and has been based in Würzburg since 1979. The company manufactures seals and guide elements for hydraulic and pneumatic applications, including rod seals, piston seals, rotary seals, wipers, guide elements, roof gaskets, static seals and complete pistons. Available manufacturing processes include injection moulding, vulcanisation, compression moulding and all types of machining; PTFE is processed using special compression and sintering techniques. Materials used are thermoplastics, elastomers, thermoplastic elastomers and thermosets, in particular PTFE, PFA, FEP, PUR, NBR, FPM, EPDM and POM. All tool designs are created in the in-house toolmaking department; 95 % of the tools are manufactured in-house. With more than 6500 customers worldwide, the company supplies industries such as cylinder and machine building, press manufacturing, plant engineering, steel and aluminium works, power plants, offshore, bridge and civil engineering as well as aerospace.

History
- 1945
Company founder Walter Hunger states that he produced his first seals from rubber strips cut from old aircraft tyres.
- 1976–1977
First deliveries to external customers such as Hasenclever, Müllerpressen, Menck, Bucher and Luther as well as abroad (including South Africa, France, India, USA).
- 1977
Founding of Hunger DFE GmbH in Lohr am Main at the cylinder factory Walter Hunger KG for in-house seal production.
- 1978–1983
Development of new guide elements (type FI) for the press manufacturer Müller in Weingarten.
- 1979
Relocation to Würzburg into an industrial building built according to the company's own ideas; proximity to the South German Plastics Centre and the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg.
- 1980
Armin Hunger leaves the management; Ingrid Hunger takes over the management.
- 1983
Development of low-friction seals for the large wind turbine GROWIAN on the North Sea coast in close cooperation with MAN; spin-off of Hunger Maschinen GmbH from machine and tool building.
- 1987
After the Challenger disaster, Hunger DFE receives a development contract from NASA; the new sealing concept is adopted by NASA.

By this time, approx. 22 sealing patents have been granted worldwide; the product range for seals and guide elements has existed for over 25 years.
