About HyFlow
HyFlow is a research project co-financed by the European Union's Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) as well as local funding agencies. The goal is to intensify alkaline water electrolysis by demonstrating PEM-like performance (Proton Exchange Membrane) in an alkaline electrolysis stack. This is intended to significantly reduce the investment and electricity costs of alkaline electrolysis and accelerate the clean energy transition. Technically, this is achieved through flow engineering of porous transport electrodes (PTEs) and advanced electrode coatings. The effect was demonstrated at cell level in the laboratory (TRL 3) by UCLouvain; using existing pilot facilities at IFAM, UCLouvain and Stargate, the technology is being validated in a relevant environment (TRL 5). The consortium comprises three companies, one research centre and one university.
