About HYFLY

HYFLY is a cooperation between the companies Kasaero GmbH and PS-HyTech GmbH for the development and production of highly modular electric hydrogen fuel cell propulsion systems for sustainable aviation. The H167 system combines a fuel cell with a spherical hydrogen tank (7 kg H2), a buffer battery, control electronics and the combination of electric motor and inverter, and is designed for ultralight aircraft, motor gliders, Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), medium-sized drones/UAVs and experimental eVTOLs. The prototype system delivers a take-off power of 70 kW and is conceived as a full replacement for conventional combustion engines such as the Rotax 912; depending on the aircraft configuration, flight durations of up to 7 hours are possible. The system meets the applicable requirements under LTF-UL, and certification as an aircraft engine (EASA CS-E / FAA Part 33) is planned. HYFLY originated from a project funded by the BMWK with the partners PS-HyTech, Kasaero, Flying Ad and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt. The operating site and contact address is Burghaslach; a Dornier DS-2C provided by Dornier Seawings (DS-2C/HY) serves as the test aircraft for the system.
