About Hyperdrives

Hyperdrives is a deep-tech engineering company for electric drive systems founded in Munich in 2021. The company develops electric motors and inverters whose stators feature proprietary hollow-conductor direct cooling: copper windings with hollow channels (1–2 mm) are cooled with low-viscosity dielectric oil directly at the point of heat generation, which increases heat dissipation tenfold compared to conventional stators and enables continuous current densities of up to 75 Arms/mm². The motors are designed for fully automated, high-volume series production in existing hairpin stator lines and use industry-standard materials such as copper, grain-oriented electrical steel and standard laminates; expensive cobalt-iron steel, 3D-printed windings and rare-earth magnets are not required. In-house process and materials expertise as well as proprietary FEM software tools allow short development cycles. For series production, Hyperdrives works with experienced manufacturing partners such as FGB Fertigungsgerätebau Steinbach. Target industries are automotive, heavy-duty, aerospace, shipping, wind energy and generators.

Technologies and Materials

Cu

Copper hollow conductor

Hollow copper conductors with 1–2 mm cooling channels allow direct cooling fluid contact and continuous current densities up to 75 Arms/mm².

GO-Stahl

Grain-oriented electrical steel

The Ultra stator uses grain-oriented laminates that reduce iron losses by 50%.

Std-Lam

Standard laminates

Conventional stator laminates without cobalt-iron content are sufficient for the target performance thanks to process expertise.

DiÖl

Low-viscosity dielectric oil

Coolant with water-like viscosity and electrically insulating properties, pressure loss below 1 bar.

NdFeB-opt

Rare-earth magnets (optional)

Rotor magnets are optionally used and can be omitted entirely if required.
