About IBK-Fibertec
IBK-Fibertec GmbH, based in Büren (North Rhine-Westphalia), manufactures components and structures made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP). The product range includes antenna cylinders, GRP mobile network masts and communication masts, structural and lightweight components such as rotor blades for wind turbines, as well as special components such as chimneys, tanks, pressure vessels, lighthouses, bumpers, vibration dampers, stelae and cladding shells. A new business area is large-volume GRP water storage tanks and fire-fighting water tanks with volumes of 15,000 to 100,000 litres, above or below ground. Production is carried out using three processes: computer-controlled filament winding for rotationally symmetric structures and hollow bodies, injection moulding (resin injection into closed moulds) and hand lay-up in open moulds of any size. The service portfolio ranges from consulting, planning, calculation and design through manufacturing to assembly. The company originated from the IBK Ingenieur-Büro für Kunststofftechnik GmbH; under the managing partners Bernd Burgwedel and Harald Westrup it was developed into an independent, family-run GmbH that supplies customers in more than 22 countries.

Materials and Manufacturing Processes
Glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GRP)
Highly load-bearing composite material for antenna cylinders, masts, tanks and lightweight structures.
Filament winding process
Resin-impregnated continuous glass fibres are wound computer-controlled onto a core; for rotationally symmetric structures and complex hollow bodies such as tanks and cylinders.
Injection process (resin injection)
Dry reinforcing fibres are wetted with resin under high pressure in a closed mould; reproducible and cost-effective for high quality requirements.
Hand lay-up laminates
Manual laminating in open moulds of any size for smaller series and simpler components with high surface quality.

History
The origin was the IBK Ingenieur-Büro für Kunststofftechnik GmbH; under Bernd Burgwedel and Harald Westrup all areas were further developed and expanded – the foundation is around 40 years of experience with the material GRP.
Today, IBK-Fibertec is an independent, family-run GmbH based in Büren with customers in more than 22 countries.
- 2026-06-04
New business field: large-volume GRP water storage tanks (15,000–100,000 l) for fire-fighting water provision, agriculture and industrial processes, manufactured using the established winding technology.
- 2026-08-02
Testing of the new DIN 14230 for underground fire-fighting water tanks; the filament-wound GRP fire-fighting water tanks comply with the current normative requirements.
