ICS Industriechemikalien Schwefelnatrium GmbH produces sodium sulfide compounds at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen site: sodium sulfide (Na₂S), sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) and disodium tetrasulfide (Na₂S₄). The products are offered as solid flakes and as aqueous solutions in flexible concentrations and delivery forms. Sodium sulfide has been produced at the site since 1916; following privatization in 1996, a modern, officially approved production facility was built in which Na₂S is manufactured from the raw materials sodium hydrosulfide and caustic soda and processed into solid products in an evaporation plant. The facility is classified as an upper-tier establishment pursuant to the 12th BImSchV (Major Accidents Ordinance) and operates with closed production circuits, gas warning systems and automatic safety devices. Customers are clients and trading partners in Germany and worldwide; fields of application include, among others, the chemical industry, the metal industry, tanneries and wastewater treatment. Production runs on 100 % green electricity.
