About Us
Inseltöpferei Klampfleuthner is a traditional pottery workshop on Fraueninsel in Chiemsee. Ceramics have been made here since 1609, and since 1723, the workshop has been in the family ownership of the Klampfleuthner family. Handmade utility ceramics and one-of-a-kind pieces, timeless stove models according to traditional patterns, tiles for the bathroom and kitchen, and classic door and house plaques are produced. The workshop works with red clay, white clay, manganese clay, and earthenware; the clay is currently sourced from the Westerwald. All objects are handcrafted by the family business—from the free construction of bowls to the turning of multi-part vases up to the modeling of figures. Georg Klampfleuthner, Master Potter and Workshop Manager, is responsible for new forms, glazes, special orders, and the planning and execution of stove tiles and ceramics; his sister Andrea is responsible for the traditional painting. While the ancestors heated the kilns with wood, today production uses 100% eco-electricity and lead-free glazes.
