About Insempra

Insempra is a biotechnology company based on the IZB Campus Munich/Martinsried that produces bio-based ingredients for the Beauty & Personal Care, Food & Nutrition and Fibers & Performance Materials industries. At its core is precision fermentation: microbial strains are engineered to convert renewable feedstocks into natural ingredients such as Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol (Superior PEA), Omega-7 biolipid or fermentative biomelanin. To accelerate strain development, Insempra uses a cell-free technology as a fast-screening platform as well as Cell-Free Protein Synthesis (CFPS). The company develops and scales biotechnological production processes (batch and fed-batch), including downstream processing, from process development through to industrial implementation. Through a strategic stake in Solena Materials, a spin-out of Imperial College London, Insempra is also active in the field of synthetic protein fibers for high-performance, biodegradable textile fibers. The team comprises more than 40 employees; in 2025 the company received ISO 9001 certification.
