About the Institute
The Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information Vienna (IQOQI) is a research institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) located at Boltzmanngasse 3 in Vienna. It was founded in November 2003 to consolidate theoretical and experimental quantum optics and quantum information research in Austria. The institute today consists of several research groups under the leadership of Director Markus Aspelmeyer and Deputy Director Časlav Brukner, as well as Anton Zeilinger, Marcus Huber, Markus Müller, Miguel Navascues and others. The Quantum Technology Unit under Michael Trupke develops experiments in applied and fundamental quantum science, including SiC quantum photonics, superconducting levitation and Diamond Quantum Sensing. The institute is not a manufacturing operation and does not offer industrial manufacturing services; it conducts research, publishes and cooperates with scientific partners. The historic building at Boltzmanngasse 3, which previously housed the Institute for Radium Research, was recognized by the European Physical Society as an EPS Historic Site in 2015.
