IOTECH Automation GmbH is an engineering service provider based in Hürth in the Rhein-Erft district (NRW), spun off from the Process Control and Automation Engineering Laboratory of TH Köln. The 12-person team provides services in functional safety in accordance with IEC 61508/61511 (SIL classification, HAZOP, LOPA), in explosion protection in accordance with ATEX, in E&I planning and in automation technology with PLC programming, SCADA systems and HMI development. Further focal points are condition monitoring and vibration monitoring of rotating machinery, energy management in accordance with ISO 50001, modular plant concepts based on the MTP standard (VDI/VDE 2658) as well as Ethernet-APL integration. Planning is CAE-supported using Engineering Base, EPLAN and Siemens COMOS; programming is vendor-independent on Siemens TIA Portal and PCS 7, Rockwell Studio 5000 and Beckhoff TwinCAT. Customers come primarily from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, mechanical and plant engineering as well as water and wastewater technology; projects have been implemented, among others, in Chempark Leverkusen and in the Hürth-Knapsack chemical park.

Company History
- 2020
Pilous and Berenz work as freelance electrical engineers for SME chemical companies and municipalities in the Cologne area.
- 2021
Founding of IOTECH Automation GmbH in Hürth as a spin-off from the process control laboratory of TH Köln; focus on MTP and NOA.
- 2022
Expansion to include functional safety and explosion protection; relocation from Cologne to Frechen.
- 2025
Growth to 12 employees and move to larger office premises in Hürth (135 m²).
