j-fiber GmbH, based in Jena, is a manufacturer of synthetic quartz glass, preforms and optical glass fibers. The company was formed in 1994 by spinning off the glass fiber activities from the Jena Glass Works, where the development of preforms and optical glass fibers had begun more than 40 years earlier. Today, j-fiber operates as a specialist for multimode fibers for modern data centers and local area networks. Its value chain includes in-house preform production as well as the manufacture of standard and specialty fibers tailored to customer-specific requirements. In addition, fiber services are offered: fiber coloring, buffering, ring marking, jacketing, glass blowing and environmental testing. An in-house research and development department accompanies product development. The company is part of the j-fiber Group and thus of the Hengtong Group, and supplies customers worldwide.
