About us

Jacob Flügel GmbH is a candle manufactory from Montabaur that has been run as a family business in its seventh generation since 1792. With around 30 employees, the company produces church candles, altar candles, votive lights, Easter and votive candles, liturgical candles for baptism, communion, confirmation and weddings, as well as design candles. Production follows traditional methods such as the candle-drawing process (Zugverfahren) and coloured hand-dipping; special sizes and individual wick-hole closures are also possible in small quantities. Materials are paraffin, beeswax and blends of paraffin with 10 % beeswax content. The decorations are developed by in-house designers; as a final step, almost all candles are coated with an ultra-thin candle lacquer that burns pollutant-free. Customers are churches and congregations, the specialised retail trade and private customers. The entire operation is located on the historic company premises between Peterstor and Gelbachstraße; the offering includes a candle specialty shop, an online shop and guided factory tours.
