Josef Hohn GmbH, based in Gersthofen near Augsburg, is a medium-sized, family-owned company specializing in universal joint shafts, cardan shafts, joint couplings, intermediate shafts and complete drivelines. Founded in 1987 as a repair shop for universal joint shafts, the company developed with the generational change in 1999 into an industrial enterprise with a high level of in-house production depth: from dimensioning and design through to series production, assembly and logistics. In machining production, flanges, joint yokes and shafts are produced from bar stock, castings or forged parts on CNC machining centers; external gear teeth are milled or cold-roll-formed without chips, and internal profiles of hubs are broached — either as steel hubs or with RILSAN® coating. Joining and welding are carried out on in-house developed, CNC-controlled robotic welding machines; balancing is performed to DIN ISO 1940 in grades G40 and G16. The products are used mainly in mechanical and plant engineering, in commercial vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery and special vehicles; more than half of production is exported worldwide. The quality management system is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.

Quality assurance includes tilt backlash measurement, pull-out force testing, geometric control measurements with a coordinate measuring machine and external material testing; endurance test benches test components over several million load cycles.
