About us
KAFISCHMITTE GmbH is a small specialty coffee roastery in Langnau im Emmental, Switzerland. Operator Roger Wittwer and roaster Michal Otte roast specialty coffee from directly imported green coffee on a part-time basis, with around 90% of the range negotiated directly with the coffee farmers and 100% paid above Fairtrade standards. The coffee is roasted on a computer-controlled Joper (Portugal) roasting machine with a 15 kg batch capacity, filled with only 11–13 kg for quality reasons; the roasts are light to medium-dark in order to bring out the characteristic properties of each green coffee. The range follows the seasonal harvest cycle, and single-origin coffees are available for only a few months. Sales take place via the company's own online shop as well as to gastronomy and retailers in Switzerland; there is no export. Growth is deliberately limited to a maximum of 9 tonnes per year. The roastery also offers team events, training courses, roastery tours, corporate gifts and green coffee for home roasters.
