Kalchschmid GmbH & Co. KG is a family-owned company founded in 1973 in Balzhausen (district of Günzburg, Central Swabia) with more than 70 employees. The company combines the trades of carpentry/timber construction, roofing, metal roofing (spengler work), scaffolding, drywall/interior finishing as well as consulting, transport and assembly under one roof. In the in-house carpentry shop, roof trusses, timber-frame and log house structures, glulam joinery, balconies, carports and playground equipment are produced on the CNC-controlled Hundegger K2i-Robot joinery machine with planing automat. Since 1992, Kalchschmid has operated a reinforced concrete precast plant that predominantly manufactures transformer stations for power supply utilities throughout Germany. The metal roofing shop produces gutters, sheet metal, verge and chimney flashing as well as sheet metal roofs made of copper, titanium zinc and aluminium. Customers come from residential construction, commercial construction, agriculture, retail and energy supply. The company sources its timber from sustainable, certified forestry and covers its heat demand with its own wood chip plant.

Several master carpenters and foremen guarantee masterful execution of all construction services.

Company History

1. 1973

   Founded by Augustin Kalchschmid (master carpenter, bricklayer and reinforced concrete builder) as a family business; start of the roofing trade.

2. 1980

   Construction of a joinery hall and further conversions and extensions; previously expansion of the office and construction of a storage hall.

3. 1983

   10th company anniversary with 20 employees.

4. 1990

   Installation of a technologically highly advanced joinery system.

5. 1992

   Commissioning of the reinforced concrete precast plant (transformer stations) and inauguration of the new production hall on the occasion of the 20th anniversary.

6. 1994

   Son Helmut Kalchschmid joins the company and completes his training as a carpenter.

7. 1995

   Establishment of the in-house metal roofing shop.

8. 1999

   Helmut Kalchschmid passes the master craftsman examination in carpentry and receives the Master Craftsman Prize of the Bavarian State Ministry.

9. 2004

   Augustin Kalchschmid receives the Golden Master Craftsman Certificate.

10. 2005

    First certification with the Meisterhaft seal (4 stars).

11. 2006

    Second office complex, renovation of the oldest storage hall, renaming to Kalchschmid GmbH & Co. KG, installation of a photovoltaic system (250 kW).

12. 2007

    Meisterhaft certification with five stars; AMS BAU certification.

13. 2008

    35th company anniversary.

14. 2009

    Membership in the DachKomplett quality association (11.03.2009).

15. 2010

    Award of the Bavarian Quality Prize.

16. 2013

    40th company anniversary with more than 50 employees; marketing relaunch.

17. 2014

    Assembly of the new joinery centre with CNC joinery machine Hundegger K2i-Robot; joining the climate protection network of the Chamber of Crafts for Swabia.

18. 2017
