Family business with a lime tradition since 1928

Kalkwerke Otto Breckweg GmbH & Co. KG is a mid-sized family business in Rheine, founded in 1928. At the lime works, limestone and lime are further processed into quicklime (lump lime) and slaked lime products. The value chain extends from the company's own quarry through pre-crushing of limestone and lime burning in three multi-chamber shaft kilns to lime slaking and grinding-drying; silo storage comprises four silos of 100 tonnes volume each. Production output has stood at nearly 300 tonnes per day since 1983. The products are used, among other applications, in monument preservation, water treatment, air pollution control, agriculture (barn hygiene, fertilising limes, animal feed), road construction (asphalt) and construction (soil stabilisation, mortar, sand-lime brick, substrates). The company employs around 50 staff and generates annual revenue of approximately 9 million euros; since 2014 a quarry in Brilon/Madfeld has complemented the product range.
