About Kanne Brottrunk

Kanne Brottrunk GmbH & Co. Betriebsgesellschaft KG, based in Selm-Bork (North Rhine-Westphalia), produces the Original Kanne Bio Brottrunk®, known since 1981 – a fermented beverage made from organic wholemeal bread, the company's own natural sourdough and spring water, containing live lactic acid bacteria and vitamin B12. The origin was the Kanne bakery founded in Lünen in 1904; from 1967, master baker Wilhelm Kanne III spent around two decades experimenting with the fermentation of bread grain. The product range also includes Brolacta®, Enzym-Fermentgetreide® (fermented grain with enzymes), Pauer® essence, mixed beverages, baked goods, oils, syrups and care products. A second pillar is fermented grain products as animal feed and biological plant strengthening agents for agriculture, trialled in a 40,000 m² organic trial nursery in Lünen. The family-owned company employs around 400 staff, produces with organic certification (Lacon, DE-ÖKO-003) according to HACCP and IFS Progress Food, and covers a large share of its energy needs through its own wind and solar installations.
