About Kanthal
Kanthal is a brand of iron-chromium-aluminium alloys (FeCrAl) used in a broad spectrum of resistance and high-temperature applications. The alloys consist mainly of iron, chromium (20–30 wt.-%) and aluminium (4–7.5 wt.-%) and form a protective aluminium oxide layer when hot; they are known for high operating temperatures – standard alloys have a melting point of 1,425 °C, and special grades can be used up to 1,500 °C. Resistance wire is produced at the Hallstahammar site in Sweden, where recycled alloy scrap reduces the demand for raw material in production, as well as in Bethel in the USA. The products are used in heating applications such as toasters, domestic and industrial heating appliances, furnaces and diffusion heaters (including for the production of crystalline silicon) as well as in the vaping sector. The Kanthal brand belongs to Alleima AB; the company is also committed to sustainability through electrification and recycling.
