Kathowa AG in Basel specialises in filter technology and cathodic corrosion protection for drinking and swimming pool water installations. The company designs steel filters — predominantly pressure sand, activated carbon (adsorption) and multi-layer filters — together with the associated reaction vessels on behalf of plant engineers, prepares the detailed specification and has components manufactured. The internal pipework (including PVC fittings and special funnels) as well as the final assembly of control cabinets take place in its own workshop. On site, the vessels are installed, welded together from individual parts where openings are narrow, and equipped with custom-designed active cathodic corrosion protection systems. Kathowa also retrofits stainless steel apparatus that corrodes through ozone exposure. Around 600 installation sites throughout Switzerland with over 1,500 protected filter vessels are maintained; annual inspections enable a 10-year guarantee against corrosion damage.
