About Kelterei Malkmus

Kelterei Malkmus is a family-run contract cider mill in Kalbach-Uttrichshausen (Rhön, Hesse) that has existed since 1950 and is today run by the third generation under Heiko Malkmus. The company processes only apples and presses customers' fruit from a minimum quantity of 50 kg (1 Ztr.) into naturally cloudy apple juice. The process chain includes fruit intake with scales and conveyor belt, washing and milling, pressing (fully automatic rack-and-cloth press, twin-belt press), separating in a clarifying separator, filtration with a crossflow filter, pasteurising at 80 °C and filling into Bag-in-Box (5 l and 10 l). In addition to contract pressing, the cider mill produces its own products, including apple juice, cider (Apfelwein), mulled apple wine, cider spritz, cider-cola and Boskoop apple brandy. The company also buys pressing fruit and operates fruit intake, storage and its own retail outlet. The pressing season usually runs from early September to late October/early November.
