About the Pottery Keramik Auf der Spek

Keramik Auf der Spek is the pottery of the ceramicist couple Katharina Heusinger and Martin Waubke in Steinach near Straubing in Lower Bavaria. The name refers to the house name of the property, which is located in an isolated setting at the foot of the Bavarian Forest and derives from the loamy, greasy soil. There, handcrafted ceramics are created in two distinct styles: Katharina Heusinger works with red-firing clay and pattern stamps; her pieces are thrown on the wheel or made using slab technique and coated with a white glaze. Martin Waubke creates turquoise-blue tableware, finely cut-out luminaries and garden ceramics in earth tones. In addition to their own production, both offer pottery courses in their workshops, including at the potter's wheel. The workshop is open by appointment; the ceramics are also presented at markets such as the Straubing Arts and Crafts Market.
