About KIDEMIS
KIDEMIS is a Swiss food/feedtech startup developing a sustainable alternative to fishmeal and fish oil for aquafeed. From agricultural by-products such as pressed oil cakes and sunflower hulls, a sterile substrate is produced, inoculated with fungal mycelium and fermented. The mycoprotein obtained is extruded or pulverized and offered as a feed ingredient for aquaculture. The company aims to replace one million tonnes of fish- and soy-based aquafeed with mycoprotein ingredients. In addition to production, KIDEMIS conducts in-vivo feeding studies, such as a piglet acceptance study supported by Innosuisse with research partners from BFH-HAFL. The headquarters are located in Switzerland; a site in Hanover is supported by hannoverimpuls GmbH and RootCamp (A SpinLab Company).

Substrates and Materials
Pressed oil cakes
Agricultural by-product used as a sterile substrate base for mycelium growth.
Sunflower hulls
Upcycled by-product used to produce the fermentation substrate.
Fungal mycelium
Base organism that grows on the substrate and takes up nutrients.
Mycoprotein
Extruded or pulverized protein ingredient for aquafeed, as a partial or complete fishmeal replacement.
Agricultural sidestreams
Renewable raw material starting point of the upcycling process, with no pressure on fish stocks or agricultural land.
