About Klosterbrauerei Baumburg

Klosterbrauerei Baumburg is a regionally oriented beer brewery in Altenmarkt an der Alz in the Chiemgau region. Its official founding year is 1612; the company evolved from the monastic brewing tradition of the former Augustinian Canons' abbey and is today family-owned (Dietl family). Beers brewed include Pilsner, Helles, Export, Klosterdunkel, wheat beers and bock beers according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. The raw materials – soft, almost nitrate-free table water, brewing barley from the Baumburg fields, barley malt, wheat malt and hops from the Hallertau – are sourced from Bavaria wherever possible. All beer specialities are brewed on site in Baumburg; storage and maturation take place over eight to twelve weeks in the cool cellar. Since there is no own bottling facility, the beer is bottled at the Schlossbrauerei Stein and Weissbräu Schwendl. Electricity comes from the brewery's own hydroelectric power plant on the Alz river. In recent years, around 5,000 hectolitres of beer have been produced per year.
