About KOBER
KOBER Steinwiesen GmbH & Co. KG has been manufacturing porcelain at its Steinwiesen site in the Frankenwald region since 1912. Originally founded as a doll head factory, the electrification era marked the start of production of insulating electrical porcelain. Today the family-owned company employs 75 staff and specializes in hard porcelain and technical ceramics: from efficiently produced large series to hand-crafted one-off pieces. Production uses processes such as isostatic pressing, slip casting, roller forming, dry pressing and soft pressing, complemented by glazing and hard machining of alumina ceramics. In-house mould and machine building, tool development and jig and fixture construction enable high flexibility and delivery reliability. Customers come primarily from the sanitary and fittings industry, lighting and electrical engineering, dental technology, cosmetics, chemicals and wear protection. As a contract manufacturer for porcelain, KOBER delivers worldwide and is one of the leading European suppliers of porcelain components for fittings.

Sales
Materials and Manufacturing Processes
Porcelain (hard porcelain)
Material for components in sanitary, fittings, electrical and design applications; inert, durable and resistant to aging.
Electrical porcelain
Insulating porcelain with good insulation capability and temperature stability for electrical and lighting applications.
Alumina (technical ceramics)
Wear-resistant, hard-machinable ceramic for cyclones, jet pumps, nozzles, yarn guides and plough shares.
Ceramic raw materials
Natural raw materials of the porcelain body; ground porcelain shards are recycled as refractory filler.
Isostatic pressing
Very high compaction and good pressure distribution of the material.
Slip casting (casting)
Low tooling costs, different sizes and difficult geometries feasible.
Roller forming
Efficient production with defined wall thickness and good roundness for rotationally symmetrical articles.
Dry pressing
Perfect surface, high dimensional accuracy and very good reproducibility, optionally with defined porosity.
Soft pressing
Efficient, highly automated production even of difficult geometries.
Glaze (glazed surfaces)
Elegant glazed surfaces as a functional and aesthetic surface finish of the porcelain.
Hard machining (grinding)
Grinding of technical ceramics from the precisely ground single nozzle to mass production of packing bodies.
