About Pure Battery Technologies
Pure Battery Technologies (PBT) refines intermediate products such as Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) or Black Mass from recycled batteries into high-quality pCAM (Precursor Cathode Active Material) for lithium-ion batteries. The patented process skips the metal-separation stage of conventional refining and requires no toxic solvents, less heat, less cost and less time; CO₂ emissions are up to 85% lower than standard processes. The European operations unit is Königswarter und Ebell Chemische Fabrik GmbH in Hagen, whose commercial refinery is currently permitted to produce 2,500 t of nickel per year; expansion to up to 15,000 t of pCAM per year is in preparation. The process can handle various feedstocks, including nickel sources previously unsuitable for the battery market and off-spec battery materials, and allows the material composition to be adjusted to customer specifications. Further locations are Brisbane (Australian head office) and Jakarta, with a refinery under development in the Industropolis Batang SEZ, Central Java (Indonesia).
