About KOMP-ACT

KOMP-ACT SA develops and produces electric linear motors and actuators for motion automation. The products operate with direct-drive technology and generate fast, repeatable linear movements without mechanical transmission elements such as ball screws, timing belts or gearboxes. The patented tubular iron-core technology with a three-phase stator at 24/48 V rated voltage enables high force density with a small footprint. The actuators can be easily integrated into new machines or installed as retrofits in existing machines that previously used pneumatic actuators; replacement is possible without a machine reset or reprogramming. The product range includes the LMB-32A and LMB-32C linear motors, Vibrating and Positioning Pushers, electronic DRB controllers as well as guiding accessories. Target industries include, among others, packaging, medical and pharmaceutical, food, printing and labeling, woodworking, automotive, textiles, the semiconductor and electronics industries, as well as laboratory automation and handling/assembly. The company was founded by two aerospace engineers and a university professor, originally with a focus on rotational motors and actuators made of composite materials for the electric aviation market. Design, engineering and manufacturing take place in Switzerland, with locations in Renens and Ecublens (EPFL Innovation Park).

Materials & Technology

Cu

Copper

Used for the stator windings of the linear motors; the iron-core technology reduces the copper requirement and thus ohmic losses.

Fe-Core

Iron-Core Stator

Modular tubular three-phase iron-core stator with higher continuous force density and better heat dissipation than ironless technology.

Comp

Composite materials

Originally developed for rotational motors and actuators for the electric aviation market; the basis of the patented composite-based technology.

History

  1. Founded by two aerospace engineers and a university professor; originally developing rotational motors and actuators made of composite materials for the electric aviation market.

  2. Pivot to industrial applications following an inquiry from a Swiss machine manufacturer: development of a direct-drive electric actuator as a retrofit for existing machines with existing PLCs.
