About Kübler & Niethammer

Kübler & Niethammer Papierfabrik Kriebstein GmbH produces paper in reel form at its Kriebethal site (Central Saxony district), in particular recycled papers and papers for newspaper printing. The raw material base consists of waste paper (recycling), groundwood and pulp. Founded in 1856 by Fritz Kübler and Albert Niethammer, the company is regarded as a pioneer of industrial mass paper production in Saxony and was an early adopter of reel paper machines for newspaper printing. After expropriation and dismantling in 1945/1946, the site was rebuilt from 1955 as VEB Papierfabrik Kriebstein; reprivatization as a stock corporation followed in 1990, and since 2020, following insolvency and acquisition by the Schönfelder Group, the company has operated as a GmbH. The plant employs around 115 staff and supplies customers in the paper and pulp industry, in newspaper printing, and in the field of hygiene papers.
