About da Vinci Defet

The Künstlerpinselfabrik DEFET GmbH, headquartered in Nuremberg, is a brush manufacturer producing high-quality brushes under the da Vinci brand. The company's roots date back to around 1890, when Nuremberg became a centre of brush making; in the 1950s the da Vinci trademark was created, first registered at the German Patent Office and later internationally. The product range includes cosmetic brushes for face, eyes and lips, brush sets, nail brushes and dental brushes. Production at the Nuremberg site is largely carried out by hand by experienced brush makers, combined with modern manufacturing processes. Natural hairs such as mountain goat, brown marten, red marten and pony hair as well as synthetic fibres are used; the handles come from sustainable European forestry and are partly lacquered by drum polishing. For around 30 years, cosmetic brushes have held a special position in the product range; the design is further developed in collaboration with international make-up artists. In 2006 the company invested in an ecologically planned new factory building in Nuremberg.
