About the LGRB
The State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining (LGRB) within the Freiburg Regional Council is the central geoscientific specialist authority and mining authority of Baden-Württemberg. As the State Geological Survey, the LGRB collects, evaluates and publishes geoscientific data on the subsurface including soil, groundwater, mineral raw materials and geohazards, and provides up-to-date earthquake information. As the mining authority, the LGRB approves and supervises mining in the state and is the supervisory authority for certain technical facilities such as energy installations, cableways and tunnel construction. In addition, the LGRB operates a geoscientific laboratory with a focus on inorganic geochemistry, geotechnics, mineralogy/petrography and soil science, as well as a geoscientific library. Via digital specialist applications such as the Geoportal, borehole data portal and display portal, the LGRB makes geodata and borehole data publicly available in accordance with the Geological Data Act. Its specialist advisory services cover subsoil, contaminated sites, geothermal energy, groundwater protection, raw material extraction as well as the safety inspection of dams and high-security-relevant facilities.
