About the Teaching and Learning Center
The Teaching and Learning Center (LLZ) is the central teaching and learning facility of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Duisburg-Essen at the University Hospital Essen. The building, opened in 2014, offers a Deichmann Auditorium with seating for 260 people (plus 20 additional seats), 18 seminar rooms for small group teaching, a skills lab with six rooms, and a sim arena with a 270-degree projection and video debriefing system. Three mirror-double rooms allow the observation of examination and treatment situations with simulation patients from the simulation personnel program. A learning café with around 40 seats serves as a meeting place for students. The LLZ offers elective sim courses (TraumaSim, ALS Sim) with student tutors, lends out simulation models, and rents out rooms to students. The auditorium is named after Dr. mult. Heinz-Horst Deichmann, who supported the new construction with a generous donation.

The sim courses have clearly defined learning objectives based on the National Competence-Based Learning Catalog for Medicine (NKLM). Students complete basic courses before emergency simulations and acquire skills step-by-step and competence-based.
