About Li-Tec Battery GmbH
Li-Tec Battery GmbH, based in Kamenz (Saxony), was until 2015 a German developer and manufacturer of large-format lithium-ion battery cells of the CERIO brand for automotive applications, as well as battery systems for industrial and stationary applications. Founded in 2006 as an asset management company of Evonik Industries AG, the company became a joint venture in 2008 with the participation of Daimler AG (Evonik 50.1%, Daimler 49.9%) and from 2014 a wholly owned Daimler subsidiary. From 2012 to 2015, Li-Tec manufactured the 93 cells per vehicle for the Smart Fortwo 451 ED3; the cells were also initially used in Formula 1 KERS systems and were used in vehicles from the manufacturer e-Wolf. Characteristic features were a heat-resistant, ceramic-coated separator (SEPARION, Evonik) and a cycle life of 4500 cycles. At the end of 2015, cell production was discontinued due to the price decline on the world market; in 2017, LIACON GmbH took over all plants and machines. Since then, Li-Tec has been active as a development company and in renting and leasing its own real estate.
