About Litona
Litona GmbH develops and delivers sodium-ion battery cells as well as coated electrodes and Prussian White cathode powders based on them. The cell technology dispenses with critical raw materials and uses locally available elements such as sodium; the proprietary Prussian White process reduces production steps, time and energy requirements. The cells achieve up to 3.2 V mean voltage, up to 160 Wh/kg at cell level and up to 7000 cycles, are LFP drop-in compatible, temperature-stable, safe to transport (zero-volt discharge capability) and reduce the risk of thermal runaway. Litona develops cells to customer specifications or delivers ready-made solutions; sample quantities range from lab scale (< 1 kg of powder or small cell numbers) via pilot scale (< 100 kg) to commercial scale (> 1000 kg or > MWh). Fields of application include 12-V batteries, stationary energy storage and micromobility, especially applications without active thermal management. Founded in 2023, the company has its roots in the research of Prof. Jeff Dahn (Dalhousie University) and at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and operates a research center in Ulm; the founding team comes from Tesla battery research.
