Energy for life – battery technology from Pirna
LITRONIK Batterietechnologie GmbH has been developing and producing primary batteries for active medical implants in Pirna near Dresden since 1990. The company supplies manufacturers of pacemakers, defibrillators and neurostimulators in Europe and worldwide with standard products and customer-specific solutions. The batteries are based on three electrochemical systems: lithium-iodine (Li-I) for high-energy applications, lithium manganese dioxide (Li-MnO₂) and lithium carbon monofluoride (Li-CFx) for medium-rate and high-power applications. Production takes place in five production facilities with four dry rooms covering a total of 5,600 m² under strictly controlled ultra-dry conditions with a high degree of automation; all processes are MES-integrated and materials as well as workflows are 100% traceable. The value chain includes electrochemical development, chemical synthesis and powder processing of cathode material, metal and plastics engineering as well as laser and plasma welding. The company employs around 350 people and has been part of the Micro Systems Technologies (MST) Group since 2022.
