About Lokaldesign
Lokaldesign is a furniture store and concept store for interior products by local design talents, based in Hamburg. Since 2011, the company has curated design furniture, lighting, shelving, tables and home accessories made of wood, steel, glass and forward-looking materials such as recycled yogurt cups, coal or birch bark. Furniture is made to measure, with production carried out by partner cabinetmaking workshops, such as the MOOO picture rail produced in a joinery in Münster/Westphalia. More than 100 designers and small manufacturers, who mostly produce one-offs or small series, are presented and sold. In addition to the store on Große Elbstraße at the Hamburg Fischmarkt, Lokaldesign offers the Wohnakademie (home academy) with workshops (including Terrazzo, Frame your Story) as well as the rental of an event location. The business was opened in 2011 on Billhorner Röhrendamm and later run on Schulterblatt; after 15 years, closure was announced.

Materials & Substances
Oak (solid)
Solid oak is used, for example, for the MOOO picture rail (oiled or Multiplex-HPL coated) and the cleats of the Wall Shelving System.
MDF with oak veneer
An MDF core with oiled or colored oak veneer ensures uniform stability of the shelf boards.
Steel (powder-coated)
Powder-coated steel in black or white is used for shelf bars and Tiptoe table legs.
Multiplex-HPL
Colored Multiplex-HPL coating in dark grey, turquoise or white for the MOOO rail.
Glass
Glass marbles hold postcards and pictures in the MOOO collection rail.
Recycled yogurt cups (plastic)
Recycled plastic from yogurt cups is used for table tops and shelf surfaces.
Felt
Felt is found in the curated products made of wood, felt and metal.
Coal
Clocks are made from coal.
Birch bark
Birch bark is used for storage jars.
Terrazzo
Terrazzo is processed in workshops into individual objects such as trays, coasters and utensilo holders.
