About MagneCat
MagneCat UG is a young technology company based in Bayreuth (Upper Franconia), founded by experienced business professionals. The core of the development is a patented linear motor with magnetic levitation technology that drives a caterpillar track whose track links integrate permanent magnets made of neodymium-iron-boron (Nd₂Fe₁₄B). The caterpillar track levitates around a so-called caterpillar ship with integrated electrical coils (copper) that generate a traveling magnetic field; drive wheels, idler wheels and bearings are eliminated. The technology enables the transition between horizontal and vertical travel. The first application is a retrofit system for airport apron buses (level boarding with a deployable gear system for ramps). Further target markets are automotive (amphibious vehicles for road and rail), elevator technology (multi-car shafts, paternosters) and smart cities (rooftop parking, ramp-free urban bridges). The company holds granted patents in Europe and China; a US application is pending.
